Sir Alex Ferguson’s comeback kings were thwarted on Saturday as Norwich City withstood some late pressure to hold on to an unexpected 1-0 win over Manchester United.
Anthony Pilkington scored the only goal at Carrow Road, heading in Javier Garrido’s fine cross on the hour mark. The Reds made three changes in an attempt to overturn the scoreline and secure a ninth comeback of the season, but were ultimately thwarted by a well-disciplined Canaries defence.
In spite of the defeat, there were a handful of spirited performances in Norfolk and we’ve managed to produce a shortlist of four United players – Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes - for our Man of the Match award.
As ever, the winner will be decided by your votes at manutd.com/polls.
