Vote: Man of the Match

Manchester United recorded a 2-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday, thanks to goals from Robin van Persie and Patrice Evra, to leapfrog Chelsea at the top of the Barclays Premier League.

Robin van Persie: The Dutchman showed his class, both as a player and a man, by scoring a fine opening goal in the third minute before declining to celebrate in a mark of respect to his former club Arsenal - despite being poorly received by the Gunners’ travelling support.

Wayne Rooney: United’s talismanic striker was disappointed to screw his first-half penalty wide of the post but characteristically recovered to produce a fine performance alongside RvP. Dropping deep on several occasions, Rooney was instrumental in all of the Reds’ attacking endeavours and he also saw a good effort well saved by Vito Mannone in the first half.

Patrice Evra: A seemingly unlikely target from a short corner, the Frenchman scored his second header of the season after the break to double United’s advantage. Typically adventurous, Evra also supplied a willing outlet for Ashley Young on the left flank and coped well against Santi Carzorla.

Rio Ferdinand: Cool, calm and collected. Three words which typify Ferdinand’s performance at the back against a fluent and willing Arsenal attack. As well as winning several key headers, the veteran defender also displayed his impressive distribution skills with a couple of excellently placed passes.

Jonny Evans: The Northern Irishman has formed a concrete partnership with Ferdinand and was almost unbeatable in the air on Saturday. High on confidence, Evans even burst forward on a couple of occasions, supplying the through-ball that led
