Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie were instrumental in giving United an early two-goal lead at Chelsea, but it was the Reds down the other end of the pitch who then shone.
The Blues stormed back into the game but not before United had held firm to repeatedly deny the home side during a sustained spell of first-half pressure.
That's why David De Gea, Rio Ferdinand and Rafael are all among our Man of the Match nominees.
De Gea made a series of tough stops to help preserve the lead until just before half-time, including a stunning reaction save to claw away Fernando Torres' close-range header.
Rio Ferdinand was a man-mountain in the centre of defence, while Rafael contributed at both ends, tackling well and also charging forward to add extra impetus to United's attacks. It was his shot that Chicharito turned in for the winner on 75 minutes.
Before that, Wayne Rooney had been superb in the first 30 minutes of the match, pulling the strings from his deep-lying forward role. He was at the heart of much of United's forward play (and defended well, too), laying on the pass to Robin van Persie to drill a shot off the post and in off David Luiz in the fourth minute.
The Dutchman then netted the Reds' second on 12 minutes when he showed great composure to sweep home Antonio Valencia's low cross.
