Manchester United's superb performance at Newcastle obviously threw up a number of candidates for the regular ManUtd.com Man of the Match award.
Keeping a clean sheet at the Sports Direct Arena was a tremendous feat and the back four, in particular, were outstanding. Jonny Evans opened the scoring, after already setting up a chance for Danny Welbeck with a neat flick, and defended with confidence and intelligence.
Alongside the Northern Ireland international, Rio Ferdinand was always in control and assured throughout with full-backs Rafael and Patrice Evra also in excellent form. The Brazilian was unlucky with an unerring drive that flew just wide while the skipper grabbed a rare goal and was back to his best on the left flank.
Tom Cleverley can be proud of his first Barclays Premier League strike for the club, and a lively display in midfield, and Wayne Rooney continues to shine in a deeper role - racking up a couple of assists and working tirelessly for the team.
