Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia were missing from Manchester United's training session at Carrington on Monday morning ahead of the Reds' early-afternoon flight to Romania for Tuesday's Champions League fixture against CFR Cluj.
Although the travelling squad has yet to be confirmed – we'll bring you news of the squad from Manchester airport at approximately 12:30 BST – Sir Alex watched 24 players in action at the training ground on Monday, including young defenders Scott Wootton, Michael Keane and Alexander Büttner.
Long-term absentees Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are still missing and not expected to make the trip to Romania, where United face Group H leaders – ahead of United on goal difference, having won their opening fixture 2-0 in Braga – on Tuesday night.
Ashley Young also appeared to work with fitness coaches away from the main group, while former Red Mikael Silvestre was also present, although the defender (currently without a club) is merely training with the club temporaily in an effort to maintain fitness levels.
