Liverpool might have recorded a morale-boosting win over Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday evening but there is no getting away from the fact that Manchester United are the form team going into Sunday's match at Anfield.
Brendan Rodgers' men have picked up just two points from their first four league games of the campaign and, stretching back into last season, have won only three of their last 14 top-flight matches.
To put this into perspective, United have picked up three points in each of the last three league games and go into the match as 3/2 favourites to secure another victory, with the draw at 23/10 and a Liverpool success at 17/10.
However, a brief look at United's recent record at Anfield shows a win is far from guaranteed, with Liverpool showing what for Sir Alex Ferguson must be an annoying habit of raising their game when his team are the visitors.
As the odds suggest, then, it is likely to be a close game on Sunday and the first half promises to be particularly tight.
