Players usually take time to adapt to a new team, a new country, a new league. Shinji Kagawa, however, is no ordinary footballer.
The Japanese midfielder, signed from German champions Borussia Dortmund in the summer, looks like he’s been a Manchester United player for years.
A positive passer who’s equally comfortable on both his right and left foot, Kagawa has injected an added dose of creativity to the Reds midfield. And his performances in August – not only against Everton and Fulham but also on United’s pre-season tour – have now been rewarded with ManUtd.com’s fan-voted Player of the Month award.
Kagawa earned 59 per cent of the vote, almost double the nearest contender (goalkeeper David De Gea (31%); Tom Cleverley (8%) and Patrice Evra (2%) shared the rest). Hopefully, this is just the first of many honours – both individual and team – Shinji wins during his time at Old Trafford.
