Alexander Büttner's barnstorming display at Sunderland has been rewarded with his first Man of the Match award as a Manchester United player.
The Dutch left-back made only his third league appearance for the Reds as Sir Alex Ferguson's men won 1-0 to maintain a fifteen-point lead over Manchester City. And as well as performing his regular defensive duties well, he contributed to the attack with a raid into the penalty box and a shot from distance, both of which had to be dealt with by Black Cats goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
His performance was duly noted by United fans around the world, and he received 49 per cent of the votes cast on ManUtd.com with runner-up Michael Carrick collecting 35 per cent.
Büttner's fellow defenders, namely captain Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans, were also shortlisted for the Sunderland poll.
