“This is a trophy for Sir Alex, so if he is sitting at home and watching today, this is for you Sir Alex and for the way your team performed last season and won the Premier League.”

- David Moyes

This is for Sir Alex

United’s attention now turn to the start of the Barclays Premier League and next Saturday’s trip to Swansea City, which Moyes is more than ready for. However, the boss was refreshingly honest when asked if the imminent international break provides an unwelcomed distraction ahead of that game.

“It does because I would have liked to continue getting to know them and getting to work with them,” he said.” I thought there were bits of our game that were better today and bits that we could do better, so I am looking forward to continuing working with them.

“And I am looking forward to improving the squad and attempting to make Manchester United even better than they have been in the last few seasons.”
