While there were plenty of positives to come out of Sunday's Wembley win, not least a record 16th Community Shield success, the downside were injuries to Rafael and Wilfried Zaha. Vidic's pre-season has also been disrupted, by a sciatica complaint, but the skipper insists he is over that now and feeling good.
"I did train with the Reserves here, so I did have a pre-season," he reasoned, when asked about missing most of Tour 2013 presented by Aon. "I just didn't have as many matches as the other players. But I have played two 90 minutes now. I am feeling fit.
"As the season goes along and we have more matches I will get better and better but that is the same for every player. At the moment I feel really good. I am fit and looking forward to the new season."
