Reds learn European fate

Manchester United will face FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Real Sociedad in Group A of this season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Reds will visit Ukraine, Germany and Spain in what will undoubtedly be another memorable European campaign under new boss David Moyes, who will pit his wits against some of the greatest players and managers on the continent.

Although United have never played a competitive match against either Shakhtar or Sociedad, fans will of course remember the 2001/02 semi-final defeat to Leverkusen, a loss that was avenged the following season when Sir Alex Ferguson’s side recorded consecutive group-stage wins.

The Group A fixtures will be played on the following dates:

Tue 17 Sep Bayer Leverkusen (H)
Wed 2 Oct Shakhtar Donetsk (A)
Wed 23 Oct Real Sociedad (H)
Tue 5 Nov Real Sociedad (A)
Wed 27 Nov Bayer Leverkusen (A)
Tue 10 Dec Shakhtar Donetsk (H)

United's official travel provider Thomas Cook Sport will be offering supporter packages to follow the team during the UEFA Champions League group stages. For more information click here.
