Robin van Persie's brace provided David Moyes with his first trophy as Manchester United manager following a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Wembley in the FA Community Shield.

Last season's leading scorer headed the Reds in front after just six minutes and his deflected effort before the hour mark sealed a professional win over the Latics, who struggled to assert any authority throughout a match that was rarely competitive.

Notably, first team debuts were also made by Wilfried Zaha and talented Belgian midfielder Adnan Januzaj, who sprung off the bench in the second half to take his bow following a handful of extremely impressive performances during this summer’s Tour 2013 presented by Aon.

Thankfully, official club photographers John and Matt Peters were in attendance to capture the action and we’ve compiled a gallery of their best work to help retell the story of the game.
