Loans: Powell nets again

Nick Powell was on the mark yet again on Saturday, finding the net in Wigan Athletic's home fixture against Derby County, but his sixth strike for the club was not enough to prevent a 3-1 defeat.

The England Under-21 midfielder was joined in the Latics starting line-up by fellow United loanee Will Keane, whose brother Michael was an unused substitute for Derby. The game sounded the death knell for Latics manager Owen Coyle, who was sacked on Monday morning.

Marnick Vermijl notched his first goal for NEC Nijmegen in their 3-2 win over AZ Alkmaar. Vermijl's 15th-minute opener proved to be the start of a high-scoring and entertaining encounter in the Netherlands.

Ryan TunnicliffeTyler Blackett and Jesse Lingard all enjoyed 90-minute run-outs for their respective clubs. Bury-born Tunnicliffe featured in Ipswich's 1-0 win over Charlton at The Valley, while Lingard enjoyed a more comfortable afternoon as his Birmingham side dispatched Barnsley 3-1. Blackett, meanwhile, helped Blackpool move up to fourth place in the Championship with a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Further down the Championship table, Federico Macheda's Doncaster picked up a crucial three points against QPR. The Italian forward played the full game in a vital 2-1 win for the Rovers.
