Van Persie to return?

David Moyes has revealed that injured striker Robin van Persie is on the verge of making a comeback for Manchester United.

The talismanic Dutchman, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season, has not played since aggravating a groin injury during the 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on 10 December, a blow that has kept him from featuring over the Christmas period.

However, when speaking to the media after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road, Moyes gave a positive update on the 31-year-old and Wayne Rooney, who is also side-lined with a groin injury.

“I would expect Rooney to probably be back on Wednesday (for the Tottenham game), but he’s got an adductor injury which kept him out of the Stoke game. Ideally, we’d like to have a bit longer than three or four days between each game, but we’re not getting much time at this time of the season.

“Robin has started some light training, and he might not be too far away either. We haven’t often had them as a strike partnership, so I look forward to getting them back together.”
