Petrucci's long-term aim

Adapting to his new surroundings has been made easier by the presence of United colleague Scott Wootton, although the defender has returned to Carrington for treatment on a hamstring problem.

"It’s a bit weird as I’ve been at United for four-and-a-half years now," he conceded. "Obviously, everything is different but it’s a step forward for me and something you have got to do when you’re young. Both the Premier League and Championship, even though I’ve only played a couple of games in it, are very physically but hopefully I can get used to playing football against men and do well.

"Scott was already on loan here and is such a nice guy and friendly with everyone so, when I came here, I was introduced to the group and have had no problem with them."

Pet Project

"It’s a great thing to have, knowing that he [Sir Alex] speaks to his son every day so you want to do as well as you can every day so he can hopefully tell him something good and I can go back there and play."
