Ferdinand focused on Reds

Rio Ferdinand is fully focused on chasing three trophies with United rather than worrying about an England recall.

In an exclusive interview on MUTV's Inside Carrington, the defender admitted he is still willing to play for his country again if the call arrives but is content to concentrate on his duties at Old Trafford.

"I'm not sitting there thinking about trying to get back into the England team," Ferdinand said. "I'm just playing football for Manchester United. That's what I love doing and that is what's at the forefront of my mind. Everything I'm doing is about playing and doing the best I can for United.

"If that, in time, ends up in me getting a call-up for England, then great and fantastic. If it doesn't, I won't really lose any sleep over it. I'm here fighting for titles and couldn't be any happier if I'm honest."

The midweek international fixtures ensured Carrington was a quieter place this week but Ferdinand and fellow experienced campaigners Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs managed to use that to their advantage.

"It's quiet but it's good," Rio opined. "I think the plus side of it is the senior pros at the club get to train with the younger lads in the squad and the reserve-team players who make up the numbers. You get to see how they're progressing and get to speak to them. It's a good time, especially for the likes of myself, Giggsy and Scholesy, as we can work on our fitness. If we have to put in extra mileage to keep ourselves teetering on the edge, we can do that during an international week."
