The victory came courtesy of a brace each from Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie. Hernandez kicked off the scoring on 35 minutes with a poacher's finish - following up to blast home the rebound after Patrice Evra's low drive had been parried. He doubled his tally for the match just after the hour-mark when he slammed the ball past Ali Al Habsi after van Persie's free-kick had spun off the wall into his path. The game's major highlight came two minutes before the break courtesy of van Persie who was once again excellent in attack. The Dutchman controlled Hernandez's pass brilliantly before curling a sublime right-foot shot into the far corner. He netted his 19th of the campaign with two minutes left, slotting home from close-range after being picked out by substitute Danny Welbeck.
Ryan Giggs played a big part in United's excellent finish to the first period with some great runs in behind the Wigan defence and a host of superb deliveries from the left wing. On the other side of the pitch, Rafael made an impressive return to action having missed the last four games with a hamstring injury. He was solid in defence and got forward at every opportunity, indeed he was involved in the build-up to three of United's four goals. Completing our shortlist is Jonny Evans who made some important interceptions throughout the 90 minutes to help ensure a second clean sheet in a row. He also played a lovely ball to Evra in the lead-up to United's first goal.
