RvP named star man

Robin van Persie has been voted Man of the Match against Liverpool by readers after yet another influential display for the Reds.

Van Persie has now scored 10 goals in his last 10 games and we have come to expect great things from the Dutchman – so much so that his classy first-half finish against Brendan Rodgers’ side, allied to his free-kick delivery that led to the second goal, felt like business as usual for the in-form front man.

That hasn’t stopped fans recognising Robin's input as he beat other front-running candidates Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra and Danny Welbeck – all excellent against Liverpool – in’s fan poll. Van Persie took 27% of the votes, ahead of Carrick (20%), Evra (19%) and Welbeck (16%). Tom Cleverley and (10%) and Rafael (8%) completed the voting.

Welbeck paid tribute to his strike-partner’s continued excellent form, telling MUTV after Sunday’s match: “Robin is different class. He produces moments in games that others can't. We're glad to have him on our side putting the ball in the back of the net.”
