Exciting times ahead for United

Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United can revel in the fact that some huge fixtures are on the horizon - and not be daunted by the workload.

The Reds are at Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday afternoon for what promises to be a severe examination of any title credentials before an FA Cup fourth-round tie with Fulham and two cracking Champions League clashes against Real Madrid.

The point is often made to the boss that United's continued European involvement could prove a hindrance in the context of the Barclays Premier League because Manchester City have exited the competition. However, he feels this could not be further from the truth, arguing that this is the sort of spell to be cherished and enjoyed.

"I think the best way to deal with it is we’ve got great games and it’s really exciting," he stated. "We’re going to Madrid and are then getting them here. We have an FA Cup tie at home to Fulham. It’s a brilliant period for the club.

"These are the situations you want – for our club to be involved in everything, the FA Cup and then the European Cup, it’s absolutely brilliant and we’ve got the squad to do it. There is absolutely no doubt about it. It’s tremendous. If you go back to the year we won the Treble, we had to go to Chelsea in a replay and won 2-0. We had a replay against Arsenal and won it. We’ve managed to get through and the name of the game in cup ties is to win.

"We've got to perform down at Tottenham and we're in the period of the season where, if we can keep our momentum going, we've got Southampton, Fulham and Everton to come in the next few weeks. These are big opportunities for us and we don't want to miss them."
