The former Reds midfielder has been working with Warren Joyce's Under-21 group but will embark on a first solo managerial mission while Joyce remains in England to work with the older Reserves and first-team players bidding to return to fitness.
With Saturday's clash at Ross County also on the horizon, the aim is to get as much game-time as possible for a large squad, which started the pre-season campaign with an outstanding 1-0 victory against Club Brugge on Monday.
"Some of the games will be split up into older and younger groups and we’ll try and give everyone as near to 90 minutes as we can," explained Joyce to ManUtd.com.
"Butty will go with the younger group to Ireland, taking over the other team, and we’ve got quite a few first-teamers coming into training to train with the older ones.
"It's obviously a good opportunity for Nicky as well. There are a few first-teamers coming in who need picking up and will train with the older lads. As I’ve said, it’ll be split between the younger and older groups."
Two players to enjoy satisfying run-outs in Monday night's victory at Leigh Sports Village were Scott Wootton and Davide Petrucci, who saw loan moves to Peterborough curtailed by injury last term.
"It was a first game of the season and a first game for some time for a few of them, like Petrucci and Wootton, who have not played for a lot of months," explained Joyce.
