Vote: Star man vs S'land

Alongside Evans, Chris Smalling also impressed. He started in the middle before moving to the right when Rafael went off, but the switch didn’t faze him. He read the game superbly all afternoon and made one terrific header in a crowded six-yard box to help preserve United’s lead.

Another defender, Nemanja Vidic, rounds out our list of nominees after a robust performance that left the skipper bloodied and bruised. Aside from that incident (a collision with David De Gea that left him bleeding from the mouth), the Serbian skipper was typically solid and did as much as anybody to ensure United left the Stadium of Light with a sixth successive clean sheet in the Barclays Premier League.
