Young Reds beat Brazilians

possession in his stride and rounding the stranded keeper to claim his hat-trick. Wilson's reward was a rest for the final half an hour, with James Weir coming on to replace him.

Shortly after the change, Coritiba missed a chance to pull a goal back when they were gifted a penalty by the referee, following what looked like an innocuous tackle in the area by United's Luke Hendrie.  As the Coritiba forward strode up to take the spot-kick, the wind started moving the ball off the spot, and the Brazilian's tame effort ended up going well wide of the left-hand post.

Two minutes later, United made it 4-0 following some delightful work down the left by Januzaj, and when the ball was pulled back to the centre just a couple of yards outside the box, Reece James struck a low shot past the diving 'keeper.

The game was well and truly over now and at 4-0 down, Coritiba had little to play for but their pride. However, they were undone again on 74 minutes when another strong run by Januzaj took him into the box. A challenge, which again seemed fair, caused him to fall and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Up strode Jack Barmby and fired the ball low to the left of the ‘keeper to make it 5-0, a scoreline which fairly reflected the game.

With time beginning to ebb away, Joyce rang the changes with Nicky Ioannou, Mats Daehli, Joe Rothwell, Jack Rudge and Joshua Harrop all coming on for a few more minutes on American soil.

This comprehensive victory, albeit in a friendly, represented an enjoyable end to this Texas trip for 19 young United players, one that should stand them in good stead as their football education continues.
