Nani's dismissal against Real Madrid in the Champions League Last 16 clash at Old Trafford on Tuesday 5 March has earned the Portuguese winger a one-match European ban.
There had been speculation that Nani could have a three-game suspension imposed on him, but UEFA's Control and Disciplinary body ruled the winger's challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa – deemed on the night to be worthy of a straight red card by Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir – merited only the mandatory one-match punishment.
Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson, meanwhile, was fined €10,000 (approximately £8,500) for "non-fulfilment of the post-match media obligations at the same match". Sir Alex sent assistant manager Mike Phelan to address the press instead, preferring to digest the night's events away from the media spotlight.
The ruling means Nani will be unavailable for United's first Champions League fixture of the 2013/14 campaign.
