Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney both found the net in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night, although only van Persie ended the night a winner.
Rooney headed home against Montenegro after just six minutes in England's 1-1 draw, while van Persie netted a brace for Holland as the Oranje romped to a 4-0 victory over Romania.
Van Persie's second-half double – a header and a penalty, both scored past Manchester City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon – earned him the Man of the Match award and sent Holland seven points clear at the top of Group D.
Rooney's goal gave England a flying start in Podgorica but a late second-half concession means Roy Hodgson's men lie second in Group H, two points behind Montenegro after six matches.
Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick and Chris Smalling also started for England, while Ashley Young replaced Cleverley immediately after the home side's equaliser.
