A disappointing second half incurred a feeling of frustration in United's FA Cup draw with Chelsea, but there were nevertheless some fine displays among the Reds.
Michael Carrick set the tone for another eye-catching personal display with a fabulous diagonal pass for Chicharito to open the scoring, and the Reds' midfield lynchpin dominated the first period and dropped back to lend key defensive support after the break.
At the back, Rio Ferdinand turned in another imperious display to negate the influence of Demba Ba. The veteran stopper repelled everything that came his way and remained calm in possession throughout.
Alongside Ferdinand, Jonny Evans was once again proactive in his approach after being restored to the starting XI. The Northern Irishman was a dominant aerial presence throughout the first period but was left exposed as Chelsea counter-attacked at speed to level through Ramires.
United can feel frustrated after squandering a two goal lead, but are still in the competition because of the late heroics of David De Gea. The Spaniard was brave and commanding in the first period, but saved his outstanding moment for a staggering last-minute save from Juan Mata.
