Reds ready for Dallas Cup

United will fly out on Friday to compete in the Dallas Cup again this year after reaching the final in 2012.

Warren Joyce is to take a young squad to compete against some of the world's top sides with the Reds looking to make their mark again in the United States.

Although the likes of Liverpool, West Ham and Nottingham Forest have won the Under-19 Super Group in the past, United’s only success in the competition has been at Under-12 level in 1998.

“The Dallas Cup is a great tournament,” enthused Joyce. “There is no doubt that last year helped us on the run-in to achieve all the things we achieved.

“It was really well organised, we played in a great stadium, the teams we faced were very good and it was doubly difficult because we had such a small squad.

“However, it knitted them that tightly together that we were almost indestructible during the run-in and we were able to deal with everything we came up against.

“These are the principles that you’re trying to instil into the boys, that nothing is a problem, and you cannot do that by having it easy all the time. We had to come through difficult circumstances with the travelling and the volume of work. 

"It was near enough the same team playing every minute of every game, five matches in six days, after travelling halfway around the world. But we showed that resilience.”

The spirit fostered during the trip clearly stood Joyce’s squad in good stead, with
