Schmeichel appreciates continuity

United legend Peter Schmeichel has always preached the value of continuity with Barclays Premier League clubs.

In an exclusive interview with at the unveiling of Sir Alex Ferguson's statue last year, the Treble-winning keeper was full of praise for Arsene Wenger and David Moyes for the work they have done at Arsenal and Everton. It was clear that the Dane was baffled by the mentality of some clubs who regularly change the man in charge.

"I think it’s ridiculous," he stressed. "I think there are only a few clubs, in my opinion – just my opinion – who are doing things in the right way. Everton, Arsenal and ourselves. Arsene Wenger has been at Arsenal 15 or 16 years and David Moyes has been at Everton more than 10 years. Everton are playing well again this season. If you get rid of your manager, new players come in and have to get used to you and everything else.

"Everton stuck by him after they didn’t have the best of starts to last season and look at them now. I think it’s absolutely brilliant what we’ve done and I’m so proud to be part of a football club in the way that it runs its own course, if you like, and sticks by what we believe in. We don’t believe in quick fixes and always have a long-term plan."
