Moyes will officially take over the managerial reigns on 1 July – although Sir Alex expects the new boss to pop into Carrington before that – after signing a six-year deal with the club.
Sir Alex says Moyes will quickly understand the size of the club in terms of its global appeal, but maintains that his primary focus will always be on getting the best out of the team.
“David will soon realise the enormity of this club - the global brand and the number of sponsors we’ve got and things like that, although I think he realises that already,” the boss told reporters on Friday. “He just has to fit into that. I don’t think that will be an issue and the most important thing is the team. The priority is the football team. Without the football team they wouldn’t have all the sponsorships. Everyone knows that here, there is no doubt about that.
“He’s got a good squad of players and he’ll want to add players to that himself I’m sure. He’ll have his own ideas which is good. He’ll be fine.”
Sir Alex yet again reiterated that Moyes was the overriding choice to take over at the Old Trafford helm.
“People used to say to me ‘do you think he will be a manager or he will manage United one day?’ about players who are not even in the job now. Football is that kind of industry,” he explained.
