Nicky Butt praised goalscorers James Wilson and Joe Rothwell after the Under-19 team's excellent 2-0 victory at Real Sociedad in the UEFA Youth League.
Skipper Wilson took his tally to four goals in as many games in the competition with a well-taken finish from a Sam Byrne cross before Rothwell galloped onto a through ball by Andreas Pereira to double the lead in the second half.
Although keen to praise the entire side for a classic counter-attacking performance in Europe, which has reignited the push for qualification, Butt discussed the contribution of the England Under-19 international pair.
"James is a good player," Butt informed MUTV. "We all have high hopes for him. He has phenomenal athleticism. He has good speed and he's a good finisher.
"He has all the attributes to be a top centre-forward. He just has to keep learning, keep working hard and keep working in games like this. Competitions like this are great for the young players' development so we want to keep going and going."
Butt is keen to see Rothwell add more goals to his game by breaking into opposition boxes. "Joe has a great burst of energy and can surge through," explained the coach. "It's something he has to work on - he can do that more often. He knows that and he did that against Real Sociedad. But it's a great performance from all our players - not just Joe."
