Loans: Lingard nets again

Manchester United prospect Jesse Lingard took on Reds team-mate Tyler Blackett as Birmingham City drew 1-1 with Blackpool at St Andrews.

Lingard scored the opening goal of the Championship clash, his sixth strike in seven appearances for the Midlanders, but the Seasiders battled back to earn a point with Blackett making a couple of fine goalline clearances in quick succession to preserve a point.

"I always try to score or get an assist in a game," Lingard told the Birmingham Mail. "That's my aim.

"He's my friend, Tyler, who cleared off the line for them, which I was gutted about. He came out of nowhere. We all thought Lee [Novak] had scored and that the ball was going in."

Blackett reverted to left-back after previously appearing in midfield for Paul Ince's side. "It is my preferred position," he explained to the club's official website. "That is where I enjoy as I can get forwards and back.

"I'd only played Under-21 football and that is totally different to playing in the Championship, which is a great experience.  It's tough but I'm getting used to it."

Elsewhere in the Championship, Nick Powell and Ryan Tunnicliffe played the full 90 minutes of Wigan's defeat to Brighton and Ipswich's loss to Leicester respectively.

On Friday, Federico Macheda started his second loan stint with Doncaster Rovers after returning from injury and was a key figure in the 2-0 success against Yeovil. The Italian earned praise for his hold-up play and crossed for Dean Furman to score.
