Manchester-born defender Tyler Blackett has been with United since he was eight, progressing right through the ranks at the club.

His height and powerful physique mean he is naturally suited to playing at centre-back, but he is arguably best playing at left-back and performed both roles after being part of the FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2011.

The powerful local lad's athleticism allows him to make surging forward and, in fact, he has proved adept in a more advanced left-wing position when required on occasion - he even played there for Warren Joyce's Reserves at Sunderland.

He has represented England at youth international level and is highly regarded - making more Academy appearances (28 plus one as a substitute) than any of his peers at the club in the 2011/2012 season.

By adding booming free-kicks to his repertoire, he collected a couple of goals from set-pieces - including a rocket at Swansea City in the FA Youth Cup. After being introduced at Reserves level by Joyce (featuring in five games in all), he made more appearances in 2012/2013 but finished the season with an injury.
