Chris Smalling is relishing the prospect of competing for a place at the World Cup finals with England next summer.
The composed defender has impressed for Manchester United in matches against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup and away to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League. The 23-year-old is looking to help England pick up two home wins over Montenegro and Poland that would clinch qualification for the tournament in Brazil.
"There are a lot of international breaks, it’s like you’re half playing for United and half for England," he told United Review. "But it’s an exciting time as well.
"Hopefully, England can qualify for the World Cup, we don’t want to have to go into the play-offs in November. It’d be nice to play a couple of friendlies knowing that, if I have a successful season with United, I can go to Brazil. What a way to end the season that would be.
