“That’s down to the manager, he’ll set us up in a system which he feels will give us the best chance to score goals. If that’s me, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck all playing in the same team, then I’m sure he’ll have a system where we can fit into that.”
A win on Friday would see England retain top spot in Group H with one game remaining, but with margins so tight Rooney accepts that the experienced players like him must take a lead in easing the nerves at Wembley.
“There are a lot of nerves and sometimes you can hear that through the crowd as well. We need the experienced players to keep us calm. We don't want to be rushing things, and we know we have to be patient.
“That is where the experience of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick and I can make sure we try and keep that calmness about the team to help us get the points we need.”
