Vidic: We must improve

Nemanja Vidic is not troubled by Manchester United’s form following Sunday’s defeat at Liverpool, though the club captain acknowledges his teammates must improve in certain areas.

The champions were beaten by Daniel Sturridge’s solitary goal at Anfield, where David Moyes’s men dominated large chunks of the match and looked the more likely team to score throughout. However, although the possession stats were healthy, the goal count was disappointingly low.

Of course, Sunday’s match was preceded by last Monday’s stalemate with Chelsea, another match in which United failed to hit the back of the net. But when asked if he is worried about his team’s short dry spell in front of goal, Vidic was calm and keen to confront the matter head on.

“From every game you can take positives and negatives, even from this one,” he told MUTV. “In the first game against Swansea, we scored four. But I do not judge matches on goals. I think both games against Liverpool and Chelsea were both really solid, we didn’t give our opponents anything.

“Not scoring is not like us but it is still the beginning of the season and we have so many games to play, some tough games. I would not say we are worried but we have to improve some areas.”

As David Moyes explained after the final whistle, United’s performance was good and the Reds were only undermined by Sturridge’s fourth minute opener.
