Petrucci harbours hope

The Italian shrugged off the disappointment to prove himself as one of Warren Joyce's top performers again during the close season, scoring against Ross County and Manchester City.

"I felt good," he stressed. "I’ve had a few injuries in the past and, if it doesn’t kill you, it can only make you stronger. That’s what I think. That is why, every time I have an injury, I want to react even more to do even better. So, this season, I came and was very focused. I’m still very focused for the season. I did feel I played well in the friendly games and want to play regularly and keep doing well.

"You need to believe all the time – otherwise there is no point to play football, you know. If you don’t believe in yourself, it is better not to play. I hope I can come back to United and play for the first team."
