Darren Fletcher has described Juan Mata as a "classic no.10" and feels Manchester United's record buy will be a huge influence next season.
The Spaniard has settled well at Old Trafford, already securing a Player of the Month award, and followed up his maiden strike against Aston Villa with an excellent brace at Newcastle United on Saturday. After also supplying a cute backheel to set up Adnan Januzaj's goal at St James' Park, Mata was the talk of Tyneside after the 4-0 victory.
When asked what the new signing brings to the team, Fletcher replied: "Composure. He's an intelligent footballer who gives you a bit of everything: assists, goals.
"Also, off the ball. Although he might not be making tackles here, there and everywhere, he reads the game fantastically. Seeing him playing in front of me, the position he takes up, how he is blocking off passes, he does a good job for the team as well. He covers a lot of distances. If you see his stats, they are always one of the highest in the team. He is a really big player and he has settled into this squad fantastically. Once he got his first goal, he has kicked on again now and got another two."
While Fletcher rejected the suggestion that Mata was similar to Paul Scholes, he accepts the signs are looking good for his new team-mate to provide a mouth-watering contribution to the 2014/15 campaign.
