After United conceded twice early on at the KC Stadium, Rooney put in an inspired display, first setting up Chris Smalling to pull a goal back before firing the Reds level with a stupendous volley that soared passed Hull stopper Allan McGregor. Incidentally, the effort was also Wayne’s 150th league strike for the club, adding to the significance of a wonderful finish.
The quality of the strike was such that users of our seven official language sites saw fit to vote Rooney as the Goal of the Month winner for a second time this campaign. Wayne last picked up the award in September for his impressive free-kick against Manchester City.
Rooney's strike received a huge 53 per cent of the votes, with Adnan Januzaj's well-crafted goal against West Ham taking second place on 12 per cent and Academy starlet Andreas Pereira's Youth Cup thunderbolt at Burnley finishing third with 9 per cent.
