Büttner quashes exit talk

Alexander Büttner has quashed speculation about his future by stressing that he wants to fight for his place at Manchester United.

The Dutchman has had to contend with rumours about new left-backs arriving at Old Trafford for some time and has been linked with clubs at home and abroad since the transfer window reopened.

However, after producing an impressive performance in the FA Cup defeat to Swansea City, Büttner reiterated his determination to prove he is an able deputy for Patrice Evra and has no desire to leave.

"If people talk about other players in my position, I don’t care," he explained. "I just want to play my game and show that I can handle the level. I know there are some clubs that want me but I’m happy here and want to play for United so I focus 100 per cent on here.

"I don’t want to leave. I want to fight for my place. I am still young and I know what I can do. I just have to wait for my chances and take them."

The FA Cup exit was a real blow for Büttner, who set up the goal for Javier Hernandez during the 2-1 loss. Thankfully, the Reds can quickly bounce back in Tuesday's Capital One Cup semi-final at Sunderland and a positive result at the Stadium of Light would keep David Moyes' men on course for a Wembley appearance.

"It’s hard because we lost the game," Alex added. "I think we did some things well but it’s difficult to play with 10 men. I’m disappointed and we have to focus on the next game now.

"It was nice to play and I want to play every game. It was good for my first game for a while. I’m just disappointed we lost because, if we win, then the feeling is different. I’m very disappointed but I think I did well."

When asked what it would mean to get to Wembley, he replied: "Everything. We want to go there and have a nice game. I think it would be good for the club as well to win in the semi-finals.
