The ex-England international is convinced the Dutchman will shake things up at Old Trafford in order to avoid a repeat of last season’s disappointment, as the Reds finished seventh in the table and failed to qualify for Europe.
“I wanted David Moyes to do well,” admitted Parker to ManUtd.com. “But, to be honest, some players let themselves down last season.
“The new man coming in will have seen what has been going on and know what he wants to do with the squad. He won’t stand for any players who might be deemed too comfortable.
“I think van Gaal is a good appointment. He has got to get in there, see what needs changing and push ahead with his plans. This will bring the belief back in the dressing room and the fans need a bit of that too.”
Parker rejects any suggestions that United will suffer a prolonged spell in the doldrums or spend a period outside of the European elite as Liverpool did before emerging as a force again under Brendan Rodgers. Although the Reds are well supported in his Singapore base, the country also hosts a huge number of fans of the Anfield outfit, which made life difficult for the 1994 Double winner.
“United will qualify for the Champions League,” he insisted. “People keep telling me they could do a
