Welbeck loves Euro nights

Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck is looking forward to the opportunity of taking on Europe's finest when the Reds face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter finals next month.

Although acknowledging the players have an uphill task to overcome the Bavarian club, Longsight-born Welbeck is relishing the chance to cut his teeth against the Bundesliga champions.

"We found out about it [the draw] when we got off the training pitch," Welbeck told MUTV. "We're going to be up against a tough team, they are the reigning champions, but you know that in the Champions League you’re going to face the best teams.

"Both nights will be great occasions, and we'll be looking forward to them."

The first tie will take place on Tuesday 1 April at Old Trafford with the second leg being played at the Allianz Arena eight days later. Having to conclude the tie away from home is generally considered unfavourable but Welbeck believes all games that at this stage of the competition will be testing, regardless of the order in which they are played.

"We'd maybe have preferred to have played the home leg second but I don’t think you should look too much into that as it’s going to be a difficult game both home and away," the forward explained. "We've got to be prepared physically, mentally and tactically as well. Going into that game we'll be really focused."
