Yorke: Rio's colossal

easy for United. But he thinks some of the answers to the problem may lie within the club.

“Ferdinand and Vidic have been a phenomenal pairing and to see them leave the club at the same time is a blow,” said Yorke. “But that's the name of the game we're in. When you get to a certain age, I'm afraid you have to move on.

“Take nothing away from Rio. We know how highly he's been regarded among the peers he's played with and against and it’s going to be hard to get players in of that sort of quality. But Jonny Evans has been among and around them gaining experience and Phil Jones is another option. He's in the England World Cup squad, as is Chris Smalling, so United have other candidates there.

“To go out and find new players of the same calibre is going to be difficult. But for the likes of Evans, Smalling and Jones, it's a great opportunity for them. They will have learned from two of the greatest defenders to have played in the Premier League.”

Dwight Yorke was speaking to Sky Sports News.
