Key figures from Manchester's sporting, entertainment and creative fields descended on the Museum of Science & Industry recently to celebrate the city and showcase Nike's Made Of Manchester collection.
The range of leisurewear is, like United's playing kit for the 2012/13 season, inspired by gingham, a pattern produced en masse in Manchester's mills in the mid-18th century.
Nods to Manchester's working-class heritage were evident throughout the evening, which featured a Q&A session with United first-team stars Chris Smalling and Tom Cleverley, as well as a recital of The Threads That Weave, Mike Garry's evocative ode to the city.
