Hearts' goalkeeper Craig Gordon is the latest player to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
The Reds and Arsenal are both reportedly eyeing up a move for the Scottish stopper, who turns 24 on New year's Eve and starred in his country's recent win over France.
Meanwhile, United and the Gunners are also allegedly set to do battle for Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar when the transfer window reopens in January.
The 23-year-old Dutch international scored 33 goals in De Eridivisie last season, and has emerged as one of the hottest properties in Europe.
Persistant whispers also suggest United and Chelsea will squabble over the signatures of 17-year-old American striker Freddy Adu - despite a rare, and largely ignored, club statement earlier this year that the Reds are not interested - and River Plate forward Gonzalo Higuain.
Fernando Torres and Owen Hargreaves are two recurring tabloid themes - both are still tipped for transfers to Old Trafford.
But there are also rumblings of potential departures too. David Jones is apparently a target for a host of Championship clubs - including Roy Keane's Sunderland, while Barnsley may be chasing Ryan Shawcross in a loan deal.
