25/08/13: The Observer feels that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to return to United, but not until 2014 at the earliest. It is even suggested that the Real Madrid superstar could sign a new contract at the Bernabeu but is still interested in coming back to Old Trafford in the long-term and the Reds have been encouraged by attempts to set up an incredible deal.
24/08/13: David Moyes is widely quoted in today's national newspapers on Everton's reluctance to sell Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini. While admitting he "definitely" has sympathy for his successor Roberto Martinez over the situation, the new United boss says: "If I was the Everton manager and Sir Alex had come asking for Baines and Fellaini, I would have found it very difficult to keep them. I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players."
24/08/13: Also on the subject of Fellaini and Baines, Moyes suggests United will make another attempt to sign the Everton pair before the transfer window closes. The press quote him as saying, "The [first] bid was probably, from our point of view, a private thing and I guess when we make a new offer we will keep that confidential as well."
23/08/2013: Everton manager Roberto Martinez is seeking at least £40million for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, according to The Independent. "I don't expect a new bid [from United]," said the Spaniard. "In fact, it wasn't even a bid because it never reached any sort of valuation of the players. There isn't an offer on the table where anyone would consider anything. If they'd matched the valuation maybe then you would listen to it but that hasn't been the situation. We are not talking here of me trying to feed a price for a player - I don’t want to sell. That would be wrong but what is clear is if you want to buy a player and he’s been a good performer, you must offer a higher value than what the club invested to get him. That is common sense."
