covered David Beckham’s last-gasp free-kick against Greece in 2001 which rescued a draw for the Three Lions and secured their World Cup qualification. On a personal level, it was probably the last England goal that I got genuinely excited about. Becks was undoubtedly at the peak of his powers at that time and, after a Herculean performance, he capped it off by curling in a stunning strike in front of the Stretford End. I was 10 at the time and can recall vividly how, amidst the celebrations, my Dad knocked an ice cream that I had just bought clean out of my hand. I was gutted, but thankfully Beckham’s brilliance softened my dairy blow!  (NT)

12:32 As many of you may know, tonight sees England take on Montenegro at Wembley as the national team continue their quest to make the World Cup in Brazil next summer. As always, it will be interesting to see how the United contingent of the squad get on with Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all involved in Roy Hodgson’s 23 man squad. 12:14 On this day in 1999, United played United at Old Trafford. Honestly (well, kind of). It was Sir Alex Ferguson's testimonial at Old Trafford and the Reds took on a Rest of the World XI team that was comprised entirely of ex-United greats for the final 20 minutes of the game. The likes of Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel and, notably, David Beckham (then a current Red), helped the ROW XI win 4-2 in front of 55,000 fans. (JT)
