Nani chats to United Uncovered about a winger's key qualities…
"My advice for any young winger would be, of course, to work hard. You have to practice, and work hard to be fast, work on your crosses and your finishing. All of those things are important.
I wasn't always a winger. I started in midfield playing no.10 when I was young, and even when I was first starting out as a professional with my first club in Portugal, Sporting Lisbon. Then I became a winger.
To play in that position, you need to be fast first of all, and you have to have good energy to be able to get forward and then get back into position. And, of course, you need to have good crosses, too; you have to try to be the best you can be when crossing into the box to find your team-mate.
Skills and tricks are important for a winger as well because you need to be able to beat your opponent. You have to be stronger and faster with your feet than the defender you are facing and that can mean using your skills to get past him.
In every game I try to come off at the end and say that I did well - to show that I ran forward and back, showed good energy and had a good effect on the game for my team."
