Fans' focus: Player of the Year

It might only be March but preparations for Manchester United's annual awards are already underway and in a few weeks' time the Player of the Season poll will open on ManUtd.com.

While there's still time and more matches to help fans decide, we asked contributors on the club's official message board, Talking Reds, to tell us who they would pick as United's star man if the voting started now.

Here's a selection of players being put forward and what the supporters are saying about them... to read more, and add your own, visit manutd.com/talkingreds.

Michael Carrick

RedArmyPaul: ‘Oh, oh, oh it’s Carrick, you know. Hard to believe it’s not Scholes.’ He’d be closely followed by Rafael. It would have been van Persie a couple of months ago but his goals have dried up of late.

Shuhangmalik: Michael Carrick has been the most consistent player this season. His passes, through balls and holding the ball in midfield have been perfect. Plus, he is versatile as he can also play as a central defender in emergencies. My vote goes to him.

dankara14: I would vote for Michael Carrick. There's calm and orderliness whenever he plays, and his passes (long and short) are exquisite. He is such a joy to watch, a very elegant player.

Japa: It has to be Carrick. He has been brilliant all through the season, despite having to cope with varying formations and personnel alongside, behind and in front of him.
