The Latin American leg of Manchester United’s epic Trophy Tour, delivered by DHL, came to a close in Mexico City at the weekend.
Backed by Chevrolet, the tour’s associate partner in Mexico, Treble-winning defender Denis Irwin and the Barclays Premier League trophy greeted hoards of excited fans at a shopping centre in the Satélite area of the city.
The Reds also staged an event in the borough of Cuajimalpa at the Cacalote Sports Centre, which was founded to help young and vulnerable members of the community to play sport.
Among those who attended were young footballers from Street Soccer Mexico, an initiative for the homeless, socially excluded and those living in poverty, members of Mexico’s successful Homeless World Cup men’s and women’s teams, and the British Embassy and British Council.
Irwin presented a signed United shirt to the mayor of Cuajimalpa, Adrián Rubalcava Suárez, as a thank-you for inviting the club, and the duo took penalties against each other.
