Papers: Lasers in Lyon

UEFA probe as laser is aimed at Ronaldo
United’s evening in Lyon got off to a bizarre start when Ferguson’s staff noticed that what seemed to be a laser was being shone into the eye of Cristiano Ronaldo from the crowd during the warm-up.
United reported the matter to UEFA but the problem appeared to continue during the first half of the game at the Stade de Gerland.
Ferguson said: “We reported what was happening to UEFA before the game because we noticed what was going on.
“UEFA tried to deal with it but I’m not sure what happened after that.”

The papers went to town on the Reds’ last-gasp draw in France, with many making mention of the laser incident. In other news, the Daily Mail claim the Reds are locked in a battle with Barcelona for Bayern Munich full-back Philipp Lahm. The paper claim it will take £8.5million to bring the German international to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, The Independent claim Gerard Pique’s representatives have held talks with Barcelona about a return to the Catalan club. Pique arrived in Manchester in 2004 after starring in Barcelona’s B side.

The same publication report Newcastle United could field 19-year-old striker Andy Carroll against the Reds on Saturday. Obafemi Martins is a doubt with an ankle injury but Magpies manager Kevin Keegan says Carroll offers “something different”.
