Papers: Tough talk for Rio

Rio escapes axe as Fabio talks tough
Rio Ferdinand will keep his place when England face Belarus this evening, but only after Fabio Capello subjected his players to a stern reminder of the standards expected from them. The England manager has held two meetings with the Manchester United defender after his error against Ukraine on Saturday and plans to speak to him again today before England’s final World Cup qualifier at Wembley. Capello remains a huge admirer of Ferdinand but is increasingly concerned by the number of mistakes the player has made this season, as well as his susceptibility to injury.

All of the other daily newspapers pick up on Fabio Capello's comments that he has spoken to Rio and some of the other England defenders about their form.

The Sun reckons Sir Alex Ferguson won't be happy to learn that Mark Clattenberg will referee Saturday's Premier League clash with Bolton at OT, after what they claim have been several run-ins with the official in the past.
